You’ve probably already started brainstorming costume ideas for yourself, but have you thought of some for your pet? Well, we’ve gathered some rather simple yet adorable costume ideas, so they can also join in on the fun! Stay tuned to find budget friendly DIY ideas that will have you and your furry friend looking #SquadGhouls this Halloween.

Beanie Baby

The first DIY costume dog Halloween costume idea will work perfect for pets of any kind. The Beanie Baby is an American plush toy commonly recognized by their iconic red ‘Ty’ heart tag. Each heart tag is designed to open up and include a description on the inside. Therefore, this would be an adorable and customizable costume option for your pet!

You will need:

  • Red ribbon
  • Cardstock
  • Logo template
  • Scissors
  • Hole punch
A flat lay of scissors, a hole punch, a Ty logo printout, and a piece of string
  1. Find a ‘Ty’ logo template online–we recommend this free printable from “One Savvy Mom.”
  2. If you are in a time crunch, simply just print the logo onto cardstock and cut out the heart shape. Everyone will still be able to easily recognize what the costume is and is cute on its own.
  3. But… if you have more time and decide to give the costume the full Beanie Baby effect– you can take these additional steps. Cut both printed tags from One Savvy Mom including the connecting piece. Fold into the booklet-like formation. On the back side, include a barcode and “for ages 3 and up.” Then on the inside, personalize by labeling your pet’s name and a description consisting of their birthday (or gotcha day) and personality!
  4. Make a hole punch in the finished tag and string a piece of red ribbon through it.
  5. Attach the ribbon to their collar and you’re set. Now, you have your own life size Beanie Baby!

Loofah

Your pet will be lookin’ fresh and squeaky clean with this next costume. Take bath time to a whole new level by turning your pet into a loofah!

You will need:

  • Tulle (color of your choice)
  • Shirt (same color as tulle)
  • Rope
  • Rubber ducky (optional)
  • Hot glue gun
A flat lay of rope, blue tulle, a blue t-shirt, scissors, and a hot glue gun to make a DIY loofah Halloween costume
  1. Pick any color tulle of your liking, as well as a shirt in the same color.
  2. Bunch up the tulle and begin to swaddle the shirt until it resembles a loofah shape.
  3. Add a little rope for the handle. Attach and assemble using a hot glue gun.
  4. We also recommend embellishing with a rubber ducky. Then, there you have it– splish splash! Who’s ready for a bath?

Barista

Calling all Starbucks lovers!  Anyone need a pup-kin spice latte? Well… order up because with this costume you’ll have your own little furry barista. TIP: This is something you can easily create for yourself if you and your pet both want to be baristas this season.

You will need:

  • Green apron
  • Green baseball cap
  • Starbucks-like logo printout
  • Hot glue gun
  • Scissors
A flat lay of a green apron, hat, hot glue gun, scissors, and a coffee logo
  1. Find a standard green apron and coordinating green baseball cap. We recommend using a child-size apron for your pet and adult-size if you decide to dress up as well.
  2. Print out a Starbucks logo or lookalike. We decided to use this super cute one that our design team created.
  3. Once you print the desired logo, cut it out and feel free to attach it how you please. We hot glued ours on for the sake of time. An additional option may be choosing an iron on.
  4. Place the barista-fied apron and cap on and you’re ready to go. Order up!
